- We use Force Five Marine Survey Report Software Services
Pre-Purchase Marine Survey
This is the most comprehensive type of inspection and is strongly advised when purchasing a used vessel. Condition and the overall operation of the vessel is examined. This includes such items as a structural integrity, out of water inspection, sea trial, electrical systems, propulsion system, fuel system, machinery, navigation, miscellaneous on board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics and overall maintenance. This survey is concluded with an overall condition rating and a fair market value of the vessel.
Pricing: $26.00 per foot for vessels between 18 and 38 feet. Boats with accommodation and older in age need to be quoted. Please call to discuss.
Note: The engine inspection is independent.
Outboard Engine Inspection
The engine inspection will determine what repairs and maintenance may be required to get the engines ready for sale requiring no addition work. This inspection is very important in determining the overall condition and value of the vessel.
Pricing: Time needed may differ per manufacturer, year and model of engine. Please contact us for a quote.
Note: Cylinder Compression is recommended in many cases after the Software Diagnose and sea-trial is performed.
Insurance Survey
This inspection is performed so that the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in structural integrity and safety for its intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats. They will also want to know the vessel’s fair market value.
Pricing: $20.00 per foot for vessels between 18 and 37 feet. No sea trial included.
Appraisal Survey
This inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of the vessel. This is normally needed for financing, estate settlements, donations, and legal cases.
Pricing: $20.00 per foot for vessels between 18 ‘ and 37’ feet. No sea-trial included.

Preparing for a Pre-Purchase Survey
The surveying of a vessel requires that the surveyor be available to observe, inspect and check many items in a short amount of time. It is most helpful if the following guidelines are observed:
- Engine keys must be on board
- The owner or representative must have the vessel's paperwork on board, and be available to operate the vessel during the sea trial
- The survey requester is responsible for haul-out expense unless alternate arrangements are made. Please ensure all necesary arrangements are made in advance. Note: At the time of haul-out, vessel bottom must be clean and free of any marine growth. If the survey includes a mechanical inspection of the outboard engines additional time is needed at haul out.
- The surveyor’s fee will need to be paid 50% before date of survey and balance is due upon completion of report
- A good practice method of checking for tank leakage is to have all fuel and water tanks full at the time of the survey
- Any shore power electrical cord should be connected and powered up at the birth
- All extraneous equipment and gear should be removed and sorted ashore to provide for proper access to all areas of the vessel
- The number of passengers should be kept to a minimum. With the need to remove hatches, gear and whatnot, and move around quickly to inspect everything, the surveyor will need all available space onboard to move about efficiently
- Time: A complete survey and water test of a 35 foot express will be a 1-2 day affair - engine inspections will add additional time
- The official report follows within 4-5 business days

All findings will be communicated upon finishing the physical inspection
